Social anxiety: A plan for the new year

Social Anxiety is something I’ve suffered from for most of my life. It’s irrational and I hate it. It keeps me from living the kind of life I want to live.

Here are my goals for the new year:

Purposely plan to do things that would ordinary cause me great anxiety, such as joining local writing groups, conducting in-person interviews, attending conferences, etc.

Engage and connect with people and honestly try to like them. People can be stupid and crazy, but it’s ok because I do stupid and crazy things all the time too. It’s part of being human. No one is perfect. People can also be judgmental and mean…. and sometimes downright despicable. I don’t have to let their behavior effect me. I can shake it off like Taylor Swift.

Have more confidence in myself. I have worthy things to contribute to other people’s lives. And they have worthy things to contribute to mine.

Let it be as it will be. Let the outcome unfold as it will. If people like me that’s great. If they don’t that’s cool too. Some people will love me, some people will like me and some people won’t. It’s ok!!! I can’t please everyone. It’s just humanly impossible.

Happy happy! Dance dance! Time to take a friggin’ nap now.
