9 most beloved blog post topics

Since entering the blogging world back in 2017, I’ve noticed some things about the blogs I routinely visit as well as posts of mine that seem to be the most popular. We all have different interests and likes, but there are some things that people tend to universally love. Whether you are a brand-new blogger or a blogger that wants to expand into different subject matter, if you write posts about these topics even passingly well you will most likely be adored.

1. Food – All people love food… or at least most people. Several years ago, I was watching an episode of Martha Stewart. Barry Manilow was her guest and I’ll never forget when he told Martha Stewart he didn’t like eating that much. I loved Martha’s response. After a bit of a shocked silence she said, “Oh, I love to eat!” Me too, Martha.

Aside from Barry Manilow and a perhaps a handful of others, most people love food. Restaurants, recipes and even growing food–and of course luscious food photos are a must. You might think you’re terrible at photography, but I feel like a mediocre photo is far better than no photo at all. Seems more trustworthy and personal to know that the recipe writer actually prepared (and hopefully consumed) the dish themselves.

2. Travel – I love reading about peoples’ travel experiences and checking out their stunning photos of Paris, Australia, South America or wherever. It entices people to want to go to those places themselves. Information about hotels, restaurants and things to do will be invaluable to them and a blog is so much more personal than one of those travel-deal churning websites (seems like there’s about a million of them these days.) 

Due to a lot of unfortunate circumstances I haven’t been traveling that much lately, but I love it and hope to be able to do more in the future.

3. Photography – Posts that are primary comprised of awesome photography are never a bad thing in my opinion. Most people are visual people and they love to be wowed. Delicious, beautiful and majestic are all great photo qualities. It almost doesn’t matter what the subject matter is either if the photos are good enough. I consider myself much more of a cat person than a dog person, but if a blog has funny or cute dog photos I will usually always like/comment on them.

Learning how to shoot and edit photos is an important skill and adds so much appeal to your posts. If you’re a blogger, taking the time to improve your photography skills is not time wasted.

4. Inspiration – Life can be chaotic. Sometimes it can be heartbreaking and tragic. People are always in need of posts that in some way inspire them to keep treading on. Our society can often be so harsh and judgmental, reading inspirational blog posts always makes me feel better. Adding in aesthetically pleasing photos is a great bonus.

5. Engaging personal stories – Along with this, I’m often drawn in by a blogger’s personal experiences and hardships. Why? Because we all have unfortunate and sometimes quite terrible things to deal with all the time. Parenting, relationships, domestic abuse, mental illness, financial hardships, doesn’t matter–and it doesn’t always have to be tragic. Stories can also be funny, informative, interesting, etc.

One thing that can turn me off though is when people aren’t actively participating in finding solutions or resolution. It can be annoying when people are just simply bitching while leaving the problem-solving part to everyone else.

6. Humor – On the subject of funny, I was watching an interview years ago, I believe it was with Rosie O’Donnell, wherein she was asked about her comedic influencers. She mentioned that her mother, who had died when she was young, had once said this to her: “being funny always wins people over.” So true! People love to laugh. It lightens the mood and helps make life bearable. Funny stories or photos can sometimes turn a person’s whole day around.

7. Money – Even if you’re someone who blogs for fun and not to make money, there’s hardly anyone who would say no to money if they did end up making some.

I’ve never been good at making money. I’ve been tragically poor most of my life. It’s probably the one thing I know the very least about, which really sucks because I don’t enjoy being poor at all. I don’t have much interest in being a poor suffering martyr. When I read blog posts where people have great advice on making money I’m usually always interested.

8. Beauty/Makeup – I wasn’t allowed to wear makeup when I was growing up due to my parents’ strict religious convictions. This is probably why I ended up going kinda crazy with it for a while in my young adult years. The internet wasn’t around yet at that time but if it was all the makeup and beauty posts would have been awesome. I still read them sometimes with interest. Not quite dead yet.

9. Nature – I don’t think you could ever go wrong with blogging about nature. I’m going to include cats in this section. I adore crazy cat blogs. Here again though, I believe photos are essential.

Mountains, lakes, rivers, birds, animals, flowers, gardens, farms, happy trees, happy meadows…. I think I’ve been watching too much Bob Ross.
