Local artist: Watercolor paintings by Stewart Jones

Great art has a way of soothing the soul and reminding us that there is still beauty and wonder in a world that can often be ugly and callous.

I got so obsessed with watching Bob Ross paint that I started looking for more Florida-grown artists that I could admire. I found these paintings from local painter Stewart Jones. He paints in watercolors. I had a watercolor paint set when I was kid and I was crazy terrible at it, which is probably why I’m so fascinated by great painters.

This is what Mr. Jones had to say about his work and his use of watercolors. It sounded so good I didn’t want to paraphrase his words one bit.

“I enjoy painting in watercolor because it is spontaneous, you are never sure what might happen when mixing watercolor pigments with water. I feel I have more expression in my paintings with watercolor medium than when painting in oil and acrylic. I can create atmospheric effects in watercolor that I can’t achieve in other mediums.”

Mr. Jones has been practicing his love of art for over 40 years. His work is influenced by Winslow Homer, John Singer Sargent, Paul Cézanne and his grade school art teacher, Bill Chandler.

You can view his portfolio and order paintings on his website. You can also visit his blog. I’m sure he would love hearing your feedback. Or, if you’re lucky enough to live in Central Florida you can stop by his studio, Gallery on First in Sanford near beautiful Lake Monroe. There are several great restaurants in the area, and, if you’re into such a thing, it’s a great place to go bar-hopping.
