Within the staples of 80s fashion few things are as iconic or as unforgettable as 80s big hair. I was lucky back then to have great hair and thus I could rat my hair higher than just about anyone in my school. I was a social misfit though so few people cared aside from myself… or so I thought.
Funny, years after high school was over I would run into some of those same people and they were just as friendly to me as if we’d actually been cool all those years back. Life is just weird sometimes. Scratch off all those evil plans to get revenge! I prefer peace and harmony anyway.
Anywho, since I’m not in possession of any of my old photos I will have to suffice with photos of some of my favorite 80s celebs. Here are some great ones! Enjoy!
Joan Cusack in Working Girl
Demi Moore
Cyndi Lauper
Madonna
Melanie Griffith in Working Girl
Whitney Houston
Sarah Jessica Parker
Nicole Kidman
Joan Jett
Oprah Winfrey
Candace Cameron
Just look how creative we were in the 80’s…not just hair, but clothing too. One of my favorite’s for both is Bananarama’s “I Heard a Rumor” video.

I love Cindy Lauper and Joan Jet. I don’t know who the Working Girls.

Working Girl was pretty much an 80s chick flick, so if you don’t remember it I wouldn’t be too surprised 🙂

It looks so odd now! Thank you for putting these photos together. Where is Farah Fawcett? Enjoyed this post! Stay well and happy! Cheryl

Thanks for visiting! I was a little conflicted about Farah Fawcett. I wasn’t sure if she belonged to the 80s or the 70s. Maybe a little of both. 🙂

I remember the style well and although I never wore my hair too big (My hair was too long and way down my back) I did have the rat in the front and wings! And I absolutely loved the acid and stone washed denim!

Yes, and I don’t know about you but sometimes it took me a bit of time in the morning to get that rat to look just right! Funny it takes me all of about two minutes to get my hair ready in the morning now!

Too funny! I had some pretty righteous hair back in the day.

Righteous hair… yes, that’s good terminology for awesome 80s dos! 😄

Oh me too, I read Cyndi’s autobiography a few years ago. It was really good.

Time has a funny way of changing perspectives.
I remember myself from the 80s – I live in Texas then …. can you imagine the hair?

Yes, I can imagine. And yes it’s funny how time changes things and how fads come and go.

Hi there. I think that Joan Jett’s hair today might be about the same as it was years ago. See ya.

Ohhh, take a spin oh JoAnn’s time machine!
OK, the male version of big hair…
In our junior high, there were two guys who were totally into “Miami Vice.” To the point they dressed as “their” characters, with the blond being Crockett of course, and the Syrian guy (not much racial diversity in our suburban school district back then) playing Tubbs. Every Monday, they’d recite dialogue from the previous Friday’s episode. So effectively, in fact, it’s obvious now they must’ve called each other over the weekend and practiced.
So there you have it – big hair and (Teen) Miami Vice. Yet, I still adore those memories. Play any John Hughes movie, and I’ll watch it, still rapt after the 765th time. Yes, even “Sixteen Candles,” though you’ll never get me to admit it. “Ferris Bueller” is my all-time fav!

Ah, you are clairvoyant. I was seriously thinking of doing a follow-up of 80s big hair, male version. I still adore my hair bands, all these years later.
And speaking of hopping on the time machine, Miami Vice was truly a trendsetter for cool in the 80s. I would have been very interested, and I’m sure amused, to see your classmates take on being Crockett and Tubbs. Seriously.
I love John Hughes, and his cosmic cousin, Cameron Crowe. It wouldn’t have been the 80s without them!

Ah, but for a smartphone to have recorded it all! The reenacting duo did win appreciative applause from their classmates. We of the usual mindset Clapping-Is-So-Uncool!-Who-Are-We?-Our-Parents?
Here comes Random Response Part II – As I settled into the dentist’s chair yesterday, the first song I heard was “Take On Me,” an absolute favorite! Better yet, the dentist had tuned “I Heart Radio” to the Eighties Channel. It definitely deserved a compliment, and got one.
Finally, can any conversation about all those teen movies be complete without mentioning the flick that started it all, “Fast Times at Ridgemont High?” Though I was far too young to catch it when it was new, I definitely took a cotton to it over ensuing decades. My favorite was Mr. Hand, distributing Spicoli’s pizza to the class. Oh, and Phoebe Cates, my first pre-teen crush!

I too was pretty young when Fast Times came out but I loved watching it just a few years later. I loved all the interactions between Phoebe and Jennifer Jason Leigh. It was so accurate.
If you meant you went to the dentist on Monday that would be a weird coincidence because I too went to the dentist on Monday!
I still listen to 80s music all the time. I listen to modern stuff too though. Still I don’t think you can beat the music you grew up with!

My baby fine hair never cooperated but it didn’t stop me from trying with my copious amounts of Rave hairspray and blow dryer!

Oh for real. Who could have survived the decade without hair spray and a blow dryer?!

Wow! It makes one realize how times and fashions change. I never wore a similar hairdo, couldn’t have, even if I had tried. 🙂
