…this song by Blue Oyster Cult has long been one my favorites. It may seem strange to some, but I often play it when I’m feeling stressed, down or just put upon by the world’s bs in general.
Many people think it’s a dark song… and maybe it kinda is, which helps me to love it! However, the song isn’t as dark as a lot of people think… and I don’t find it creepy at all as some people do.
Just the opposite. It’s actually a song about letting go of fear… the wind, the sun and the rain… they aren’t afraid of anything! They just hang out and do their thing.
It’s also a song about daring to believe in everlasting love, one that transcends even death. That’s why it usually ends up making me feel so much better… and why I love it.
…baby take my hand, we’ll be able to fly.

p.s. When I was looking to add a link to the video I stumbled upon this thing… a parody of the Disney reopening set to “Don’t Fear The Reaper.” I don’t know weather to laugh or cry. I worked at Disney World for five years and ended up leaving in disgust, so this obviously has many layers of meaning for me.

Seems to me, JoAnn, the BOC’s song doesn’t so much celebrate death, as it taunts its inability to diminish the eternal. These death-defying qualities are ours right now, so let’s celebrate them. Celebrate life while we’re at it.
As for Disney, I’m not among those rushing to go down there ASAP. Nope, much as I had saved up for a couple years, and had spent as long building up the Grand Floridian and the “Signature” restaurants, the time still isn’t right. Come on, with masks, social distancing, and most things staying closed, how joyless an experience is the resort right now?
Sure, next year still probably will be too early for me to renew flight, hotel and restaurant reservations. Chances are it’ll be 2023 or even 2024 before the trip. That’s OK; I’ll wait.

Yes, I believe that’s what a lot of people are thinking and I can’t blame them. Even Disney probably didn’t anticipate how bad it would be as they are now faced with laying off nearly half of their work force.
I’m sure they will be alright though. Disney’s profit margin has been astronomical for years so they have plenty of rainy day reserves.
BOC… that’s what my brother used to call them… that brought back memories there for a minute. 🙂

I like the video, very fitting … maybe people find the song creepy, because they often find the mere idea of death creepy.

Yes, that is most likely true. There was a time in my life when I didn’t want to think about mortality at all… maybe that changes as you get older 🤔

I love that song too and listen to it when I’m stressed. It’s the equivalent of that song with the lines ‘don’t worry, be happy’ but about death haha
